Gym Makeup... Yay or Nay?

Happy Monday!  Today we are talking makeup... YEY!

If we are friends on Facebook you probably have seen my enormous makeup collection.  I have always been passionate about makeup from a very young age.  I was the friend and the sister that would do girls makeup for prom and homecoming.  Loved doing makeup and collecting makeup.

However,  I am not a fan of wearing a full face of makeup to the gym.  Are you?

Is working out in a full face of makeup bad for your skin?  Well, according to my dermatologist wearing foundation can clog your pores which can lead to breakouts.  However, since there are no hair follicles on your lips it is pretty safe to wear lip products.  I personally, rarely get acne or breakouts on my eyes, so eye makeup such as an eye shadow stick or eye shadow are probably safe to use.  I avoid mascara or eye liner since sweat can get into my eyes, making it really uncomfortable to workout in.

Since we all have busy lives and we all know the importance of working out, I understand that sometimes we simply can not avoid wearing makeup to the gym.

Here are some of my favorites makeup items that I keep in my gym bag.  I do not use them often however, if I need a quick refresher or if I am planning to run errands after the gym, these are my "go-to".

Makeup Items:
Great Lash clear mascara (I use this for my eyebrows)
Garnier Skin Renew Roller (I use this as concealer)

Tip: Keep inexpensive products in your gym makeup bag, that way you will not be heart broken if they get lost or stolen. ;o)
If you watched any of my vlogs last year then you know that I went through years of adult acne.  Consequently, I am now dealing with scarring and problem spots on my skin.  When wearing makeup at the gym I love to use a bit of concealer and a powder product over top to camouflage problem spots.  Unlike liquid foundation, powder products are less likely to clog your pores and provide a pretty good coverage.  Also, tinted moisturizers and BB creams, specifically those that state "do not clog pores" on their packaging are "ok" to use if you do not feel comfortable with a bare face.  Choose your coverage wisely.  Trust me, I have been there I know the feeling.

The best thing for your skin is to remove your makeup before your workout routine.  My favorite way to do this at the gym is with make up wipes.  I love the Alba and the "Yes to Cucumbers" makeup wipes to remove my makeup.  Whether in makeup or not, I love keeping these in my gym bag to clean my face after an intense workout .

How about you...  Do you wear makeup for the gym?  What are some of your tips and makeup go-to products for the gym?
I am always looking for new suggestions. ;o)

I hope you found this helpful.

  1. I don't wear much make-up normally so when I go to the gym I usually just have some light powder on my face and eye liner!

  10. Im a make up junkie... I blame it on the dark circles under my eyes since having kids, lol. But I keep it minimal at the gym. A little tinted moisturizer and that's good enough!
