Product Review: #Neocell Collagen Sport Ultimate Recovery & Facebook Giveaway

Hi, I hope you are having a good week so far.  My week has been a bit hectic, but I am managing.  Personal training school started this week and between that and my normal everything else schedule: I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Anywhosers, I wanted to share a product review with you guys.  If you have been a reader of this blog for a long while now, you know that I am a fan of plant based protein powders.  I personally love brown rice and hemp protein powder. I have also enjoyed my egg white protein powder here and there.  I just love how versatile they are, you can bake with them, cook with them and use them in a smoothie or shake.

Why don't I use Whey?  Honestly, I am not a fan of how whey protein powder makes me feel.  I personally have only tried whey protein a handful of times and each time it upsets my stomach.  I am not sure why, I just assumed my body did not know how to digested.

When I was contacted by Jean from NeoCell with an offer to try some of their products I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant to try their recovery shake because it contained whey protein.  However,  I am sure you are aware of my new love for collagen/bovine gelatin products, as of lately... I have been enjoying the results of incorporating collagen into my routine, I can already see changes happening.

SO!...when I saw the word collagen as a source of protein on their ingredient label I was intrigued..

I was also smitten by the macros and the rest of the ingredients of this recovery shake.

Taken from NeoCell's web page
( I have only used their recovery shake for a week.  If you are interested in a 30 day update, please leave a comment below.)

Now, I know that this product is being marketed as a recovery shake, however I love to find many uses for my protein powders.   As you know I am known for baking with protein powder in replacement of flour, making protein pancakes and the occasional green shake.

Sure, the ingredients on this particular recovery drink are perfection, ideal for a post workout shake...  However I wanted to see if I could utilize it for more than just a shake.

I have tried baking with other whey protein powders in the past and I have to say, all of my attempts have been a complete fail.  But, again I was intrigued with how the collagen will work for baking and cooking, so I decided to experiment with it.
FYI! I tried to keep the ingredient list on these as simple as possible!
I only used 35 grams of the Recovery Shake powder for each one of these.  Personally 30 grams of protein is a bit much for me.  I think it would be genius for companies to include a scoop that contained the grams per protein marked on the scoop, so that you can adjust the servings to your macro needs.
Anywhosers went on a little rant there,  needless to say I was pleased with the results.

Check out my recipe on the baked protein cake here.

The Green Shake
1 cup of kale
5 drops of vanilla liquid Stevia
1 tbsp. of organic Maca powder
1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
1 cup of ice

I personally love the texture the guar gum gives to the shake, makes for a very thick shake.  It was not sweet enough for me, I had to add a bit of stevia to get the sweetness right.  But I thought it tasted great, very satisfying, kept me full for hours.

The Protein Pancake
2 egg-whites
1/4 tsp. of baking powder
1/4 tsp. of kosher salt
1/2 tsp. of ground cinnamon
1 tsp. of cocoa powder
1 Truvia packet

I cooked them just like I would a regular pancake, a couple of minutes on one side, wait for those bubbles to appear, flip, and a few more minutes on the other side.
These were delish! I topped them with a homemade raspberry sauce and had these for dessert twice last week.

Overall, I am very pleased with this recovery shake.  I love that I can use it for more than a post-workout shake.  It totally changed my perspective on whey protein products out there.  I especially enjoyed the addition of collagen on there, because I am a fan of what it has been doing for my skin since starting the use of collagen daily.

I also would like to mention that the shipping was super duper fast.  Also, that this product is available at various major retailers.  Please checkout NeoCell's website for more info.

Now for the fun part!!!  Jean from NeoCell was kind enough to let me host a giveaway on this product. YEY!
