#FlapJacked Protein Pancakes

Hi!  I hope you are enjoying your Saturday!
Ok!  I told you on my previous post, that I tend to stick to eating the same thing for breakfast, lunches and snacks during the week.  On weekends however, I do like to experiment with breakfast and try some new recipes.  If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a few protein pancake photos that I have taken over the last few weekends.
And... Yes.  Their protein pancakes not Aunt Jemima...

Now, I typically make my own protein pancakes and love them!  But, since I am a sucker for trying new health/fitness related products,  I heard about these and I just had to give FlapJacked a go.

Ok, so a quick overview of packaging and flavors...  
Sold as a 28oz pack for $17.99 or a 4oz  sample pack for $3.99.  They also offer a bundle size of  three 28oz for $49.99 or three 4oz for $9.99.

There are three flavors available on their site:  Banana Hazelnut, Buttermilk & Apple Cinnamon.  They use Whey as their source of protein.

Another reason why I did not hesitate to make this purchase was the list of ingredients.
Oh, and the macros...  200 calories and 15g + protein per serving.  Cool!
Instructions are printed in the back of the pack and are pretty self explanatory. 
Anywhosers... I tried the buttermilk flavor last weekend with an apple filling topped with a white sauce.  
On  My Apple filling:
1 granny smith apple
1 oz of water
2 Truvia packets
1/2 cap full of vanilla extract
 1/4 t. of cinnamon
a pinch of ground ginger
a pinch of ground nutmeg
a small pinch of cayenne
a pinch of salt

Directions:
Throw the ingredients in a sauce pan.  Start at medium/low heat until the sauce starts to thicken, about 5 minutes.  Turn heat down to low and leave for another 5 minutes, steering occasionally.

Hmmm...Ok.
I have to say that while I did enjoy the pancakes, I expected them to taste more like real buttermilk pancakes.  I know that seems like a lot to ask from a protein pancake, but, some of the reviews said that these tasted like real buttermilk pancakes.  So I was expecting a buttermilk explosion in my mouth..;o(

 I do not regret this purchase. I do think is a clever product.  Just a bit disappointed with the buttermilk flavor.  I still have to try the other flavors, I'll keep you posted on those.  I am looking forward to trying Flapjacked buttermilk on a savory recipe.   

 ***Cook at low heat***
It is very important that you follow the low cooking instruction otherwise your pancake will burn.  Mix your pancake mixture with cold water and cook at low heat.  I suggest adding some salt and stevia to the pancake mixture,  If you prefer a sweeter pancake.   
BTW!  If you are wondering what the white sauce is...  It's TOFU!
White Syrup
In a blender or magic bullet...
1 oz. of organic traditional tofu
1/4 t. of cinnamon
1/2 cap full of vanilla extract
2 tbsp of water
1 truvia pack
a pinch of salt
Tasted like melted vanilla ice cream!!
