Insanity Review

Hi!  I wanted to give you my opinion and a bit of a review on the Insanity Workout Series.  First of, Insanity is OVER!!!  As you may already know this is not the first time we have completed the Insanity series.  For some reason whenever we feel like we have fallen off of our fitness routine or feel a lack of creativity for our workouts, we reach for Insanity.  The reason why I did it this time around, was exactly that: just finding my way back to fitness after the holidays AKA: punishment.

So, what kind of results can you expect from Insanity?

A sprinter's body...

I had someone ask me: how did it feel to complete Insanity?  The reality is that to me Insanity is now a way to challenge my body and mind.  It is the hardest cardio workout I have ever done and it represents a challenge for me every time I hit play.  I highly recommend Insanity if your level of fitness is moderate and you are looking for more intensity in a workout.  Also, if you are a runner looking to improve on speed or if you are looking for a challenging cardio "hell" workout.  However if you are looking to build muscle, you may want to incorporate weights a few times a week with this series.  Insanity will help you tone but I would not rely on this series for muscle building.

So how did I feel after completing it?  Honestly, being able to complete any workout and give my max effort always feels great!  I felt like I was improving with every workout and the workouts became easier and more manageable as I went.

Do you really love Insanity?  hmmmm... I hate the 1st 10 minutes of the workouts, then I love it again! I love that burn you get during a good workout! However, I have said this about Insanity before and I'll say it again; if I could change one thing about the entire series it would have to be that damn WARM-UP, after the 2nd week or so the first 10 minutes just become a lil monotonous and boring.  The actual workouts are challenging: you are guaranteed a great workout no matter your level of fitness.
So "I love it, but I hate it"! lol
Another question I have been asked is: how many calories do you burn with Insanity?  I shared a lot of my HRM results on here and on Instagram and can obviously only speak from my experience.  So, for the first month, if you are between 120-130 lbs you will probably burn between 300-350 per workout (yes, I was shocked when I saw my HRM results) depending on your level of intensity.  More less the same amount of calorie burn for the recovery week.  For the Max Intensity month you can expect to burn between 400-650 calories.  I am so thankful for my Polar.

Did you loose any weight? I don't do weigh-ins...  Read more about it here.

Will I do Insanity again?  I do not foresee us doing the entire series again (never say never)... but I'll definitely reach for it when I feel the need for a good cardio sweat... ;o)

Have you tried Insanity?  Thoughts?

    1. Hi Erica! I stopped weight-ins last year, the scale was making me sick/crazy... I no longer depend of it... I have a rant post on it under the "humble tips" label above...Thanks for stopping by ;o)

  2. My friend does INSANITY a lot and LOVES IT! She and SEAN-T are besties, LOL! Oh probably not when she is doing it, but she likes how she feels afterwards! And the fact that she just needs to pop in a DVD and not leave her house or get a gym membership helps too!

    1. Hi GiGi!!! LOL! For sure!! I definitely have a love-hate relationship with Sean T. It is a plus to be able to do the workout at the comfort of your own home with zero equipment. Hard work but so worth it! Thanks so much for stopping by ;o))

  3. Wow! I totally admire you because I can't even try Insanity! It's just too intense for me. I do try Shaun T's dance videos (and even that I get too exhausted). Thanks for sharing!

  7. Insanity, no lie, kind of scares me because I'm not even a running kind of person. But I give gold stars to everyone who rocks it.

  9. This is a great post! These are good things to know about these kinds of workout systems. I have tried insanity, and it is a very high energy endeavor. Harder than I thought it would be.

  10. Great motivator. We go running a few times a week. And, I agree with you on the comment above, I never look at the scale. I focus way too much on it and can't move past it.

  15. I'm so with you! It's a challenge for your MIND (to get through it and keep going back for more) and body (holy hell, I have never sweat more in my life than all the Insanity workouts). I found that my core got super strong even if I didn't necessarily feel more toned. The feeling of accomplishment of finishing the Insanity series though feels awesome!! Congrats on completing it!
